Take steps to an IBD-friendly diet

Do specific foods cause or cure inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)? What is the FODMAP diet? How can I live with Crohn’s, Colitis, or Celiac and feel better? If you’ve asked yourself these questions and are searching for the answers, join Nancy Hiner, Registered Dietitian, for this healthy eating with IBD overview on November 16. She will also be discussing irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Did you know that IBS is the second leading cause of work absences in the US, only behind the common cold as number one? Those with IBS also consume 50% more health care resources than those without it.

Lexington Public Library provides digital bookshelf

Nov. 15 digital library

Be sure to check out the new digital bookshelf in the front lobby, courtesy of our friends at the Lexington Public Library! Complete instructions for checking out a book are on the display, but it’s as simple as scanning the poster with your phone/tablet and having an account with the library.

The sign will be updated every few months to allow for new titles.

National Diabetes Month and World Diabetes Day

Every November is designated National Diabetes Month. It’s a time to bring attention to diabetes and its impact on millions of Americans. Here in Kentucky, 1 in 8 adults has diabetes, but many more have it and don’t know it. To learn if you or someone you know may be at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, take a simple 7-question risk test at www.diabetes.org, the website of the American Diabetes Association.

National Diabetes Month 2017-01

November 14 is international World Diabetes Day. It’s the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries. The campaign draws attention to issues of importance to the diabetes world and keeps diabetes firmly in the public and political spotlight. Blue is the official color to bring awareness around the world on this day.

Here are LFCHD staff members wearing blue in support of World Diabetes Day:
